Out in the middle of the central west, a small club with big hopes and ambitions took up the challenge of hosting rounds 5 and 6 of the Australian Off-Road Championships. What they achieved was outstanding, a true example of how volunteers efforts and working as a team can achieve great things. President of Mudgee Dirt Bikes, Jeff Dray, expanding on this success stating ‘We feel privileged that were happy to be able to host a national event in the Central West of New South Wales, especially being a small club with a newly formed committee. We had to rely heavily on our volunteers from within our club but also our neighbouring communities in Dunedoo and Dubbo.’
Smaller clubs might shy away from national or state level events, however the benefits from hosting can be incredibly rewarding for clubs. Jeff supported this saying,
‘It was a lot of work and there were challenges around logistics leading up to the event, however, the experience we were able to provide our members seeing high-profile riders come in, along with providing our local sponsors with increased exposure at that level makes it all worthwhile.’ When asked if the Mudgee team would do it again? ‘Definitely. We look forward to hopefully having the opportunity to host again next year!’
