Motorcycling NSW (MNSW) is delighted to announce Black Dog Institute as an Official Community Partner for 2023.
Motorcycling NSW felt a partnership with a mental health organisation was important to drive awareness, while also providing our motorcycling community with the resources, education and platforms to promote positive mental health and support those within our community.
Research shows every year one in five people in Australia will experience symptoms of mental illness but 60 percent will not seek help.
MNSW CEO, Daniel Rushworth, says the new partnership will work across multiple areas.
First, we will be housing a mental health resource hub on the MNSW website where Black Dog Institute’s research backed collateral, news articles, digital services & apps will be regularly uploaded and freely available for MNSW members. This hub will be available on our website in the near future.
Secondly, the institute will assist MNSW in being a mentally healthy and resilient workplace by providing training to MNSW staff this year. Black Dog Institute will also have a guest speaker present at the State Awards Night in November 2023.
Finally, we will support Black Dog Institute’s fundraising initiatives, such as the One Foot Forward initiative kicking off in October. This campaign is designed to bring the community together to walk in solidarity with people experiencing mental health issues. Funds raised will help Black Dog Institute continue to deliver programs and services to people who need support.
Karen Elliff, Director of Funding and Partnerships at Black Dog Institute, said:
“We’re so pleased and thankful to Motorcycling NSW for collaborating with us to expand awareness around the importance of mental health. Funds raised through this partnership will help ensure the continuation of our vital research and the delivery of evidence-based programs throughout the community.”
Elliff remarked “The community partnership with MNSW is a wonderful example of the multi-pronged way organisations can engage with Black Dog Institute.”
About the Black Dog Institute
The Black Dog Institute is the only medical research institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan. Their aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone.
They do this through ‘translational’ research. Integrating their research studies, education programs, digital tools and apps, clinical services, and public resources to discover new solutions, foster connections and create real-world change.
Their partnerships with people with lived experience, federal, state and local governments, communities, schools, corporate Australia, philanthropists and others in the mental health sector enables them to drive evidence-informed change in mental health where it’s needed most.
