Last Sunday, October 30th, Members of the Motorcycling NSW Office and Board attended the private screening of Dark Rider. A film directed by Eva Kupper and the Serendipity Films team documenting the journey of Ben Felten and the Blind Speed teams’ journey of achieving the world record for fastest speed for a motorcycle ridden blind folded on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.
As a teenager, Ben was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition that left him completely blind in his mid-thirties. Despite years of hardship, Ben was determined to pursue his childhood dream to become a professional motorcycle racer. Together with former MotoGP Champion, Kevin Magee, and Communications Technician, Paul Simpson, they embarked on making this dream a reality challenging the world blind land speed record.
Throughout their journey, Ben and his team cross paths with Jed, a teenager struggling to find his feet following his own life changing eye-related medical diagnosis.
Ben’s and the Teams next big adventure awaits in 2023! Ben will be attempting the land speed record in an electric car. We look forward to following Ben’s journey.
Accessibility and inclusion within motorcycling is a key area that our team at Motorcycling NSW are striving to increase in 2023. We are proud to announce that we will be continuing to work with Ben and his team to ensure that our sport can become more readily available for those who wish to participate. More to come on this space as we head towards 2023.
A big congratulations to all involved in the production of this inspirational documentary.
