Motorcycling NSW (MNSW) is gearing up to implement an exciting new program in 2025!
The Junior Female Rider Development Program is in partnership with the NSW Office of Sport and Motorcycling Australia and focuses on a multi-faceted approach which prioritises increasing female participation across MX, Minikhana, Dirt Track and Enduro. The program is dedicated to increasing opportunities for the incredible young women in the sport aged between 7-16 and encouraging new junior girls to join.
The program focuses on a phased structure aimed at developing female riders at all stages of their sporting journey. Those being: –
Entry Level Program: Ease Your Throttle
This element of the program aims to remove the cost and equipment barriers that often deter new riders from joining; by providing exclusively female free Come and Try sessions. Ease Your Throttle allows for young female riders new to the sport to have a learning experience tailored to who they are and who they want to be in their riding career. Combined with this Ease Your Throttle will also provide incredible growth and leadership opportunities for female coaches and volunteers across our region as each session will be completely female lead and managed, allowing the junior girls who take part to have access to fantastic skilled role models and a clear pathway into the sport.
Current Junior Female Rider Development Program
This facet aims to provide structured development for existing junior female members. The is element will focus on building confidence, enhancing these current junior female riders’ skills and establishing a strong and supportive foundation to encourage life-long involvement in the sport. Providing a strong and encouraging environment as well as clear and focused growth opportunities is integral to the growth of any athlete, so the key facets of this element of the program will focus on two main training events occurring throughout the year, those being Quarterly Discipline- Specific Workshops and Biannual Skill-Building Regional Development Days. These upskilling events will focus on growing the incredible skills of current junior female riders and providing them with clear avenues to feedback and improvement opportunities allowing them to grow positively in their disciplines.
Mentoring and Peer Support with Elite Female Riders
The Mentoring and Peer Support focuses on providing mentorship opportunities through a network of elite female riders and coaches who will offer guidance, support and community to junior female riders across the region. Having a supportive and impactful mentor can often be the key to an athlete’s continued success and progression. Readily available guidance, support, constructive feedback and knowledge from skilled mentors are invaluable to an athlete at any stage in their sporting career and MNSW aims to provide this the junior female riders involved in the sport. These elite mentors we will provide a mixture of 1:1 and Online Group Mentoring sessions.
The elite female rider network is made up of an expansive and highly skilled group of athletes across the sport, including Jessica Gardiner, Taylor Thompson, Kaitlyn Cummins and many more. These elite riders will prioritise positive goal setting, competitive readiness and developing a growth mindset mentality for junior female riders.
At the end of this year MNSW will facilitate the La Femme Festival. This incredible large-scale event will serve as a spectacular and inspirational showcase of participant achievements, whole also showcasing the skills of elite female riders and coaches involved in the program. The festival will also offer elite rider workshops and skill development sessions keeping with the program’s commitment to the growth and development of junior female riders.
We have 10 clubs across our region participating in this program and we are excited about the amazing possibilities this year will hold for the Junior Female Rider Development Program.
