Motorcycling NSW (MNSW), is pleased to announce the addition of four highly accomplished individuals to its Board of Directors. The new directors bring a wealth of experience, expertise, and passion to further enhance the organisation’s commitment to promoting and developing motorcycle sports and recreation across NSW and the ACT.
With the resignations in June of former Directors Darren Gossling and Tim Austen, the MNSW Board appointed MNSW Life Member Bob McGlinchy as an interim Director, and appointed the MNSW Nominations Sub Committee to manage the recruitment and screening process for potential new Directors.
Having pleasingly received significant interest in both quality and quantity of applicants for these roles, the MNSW Nominations Sub Committee completed interviews and then provided recommendations to the MNSW Board. The MNSW Board considered and endorsed the Sub Committee’s recommendations of appointable directors in the context of the two casual vacancies (of former Directors Gossling and Austen) and appointed positions (of former Director Kate Peck, and one vacancy). The new Directors have been chosen based on their high standard of qualifications and professional experience, alongside a passion for, and dedication to, motorcycling.
Tanya Raffoul – MNSW Elected Directorship | Member Club: St George Motorcycle Club
Tanya Raffoul has a strong background in law, government advocacy and strategic stakeholder management following an eight-year term as the Chief of Staff to a former NSW Government Minister. Tanya has previously served on a number of Boards, including the Western Sydney Two Blues Rugby Club, where she focused on government grants for the club, engagement with a culturally diverse community and local investment in the sport.
Excited by her appointment, Tanya said “I join the Motorcycling NSW Board and team with a strong interest in advocating for the motorcycling family to achieve a better-connected community where all can enjoy and benefit from the sport”.
Nathan Hussey – MNSW Elected Directorship | Member Club: Manly Warringah Motorcycle Club
Nathan’s passion for motorcycling was kindled at Ku-ring-Gai mini wheels in St Ives, fostered by a lifelong influence from his father. With an extensive background in commercial strategy and management within top-tier multinational organisations and an MBA from Sydney University, Nathan brings a wealth of experience to our team. He has been actively involved in various facets of motorcycling and several clubs throughout Sydney, and he resides on the northern beaches.
Nathan has joined the board to expand the reach of motorcycling in NSW and deeply integrate the sport into the community. With a keen focus on the youth, he aims to shape pathways for the upcoming generation, ensuring they have easy access to the sport and opportunities to hone their skills.
Alison Wong – MNSW Board Appointed Directorship
Alison is an experienced legal practitioner and corporate governance professional with extensive experience advising on legal issues, transactions, risk and strategy predominantly in the finance, corporate and real estate industries. Along with her legal experience, Alison brings not-for-profit board experience as well as substantial pro-bono and volunteering experience to the MNSW Board.
As a lifelong motorcycling enthusiast (both riding and as racing spectator) and with a keen interest in sports, Alison is excited to be joining the MNSW Board and is looking forward to supporting and facilitating the sustainable growth and development of motorcycling in NSW & ACT — particularly from a female and youth perspective and general accessibility for riders to competitive racing.
Ian Lieblich – MNSW Board Appointed Directorship
With over a decade of experience in climate change and responsible investment, Ian is thrilled to join MNSW during a time when transport is electrifying as we transition to a zero-carbon economy. Electric vehicles will change the way we ride and compete, presenting opportunities to grow the sport and bring new riders on board.
Prior to joining MNSW, Ian has worked with several climate change focused NGOs and Private companies, with clients and partners ranging from institutional capital investors to Small Lying Pacific Island States, to whom climate change is truly an existential threat.
“We are thrilled to welcome Tanya, Nathan, Alison and Ian to the Motorcycling NSW Board of Directors,” said Madeleine Bowditch, Co-Chair. “The rigorous process undertaken by the MNSW Nominations Sub Committee has given us confidence that each of our new directors possess the skills, experience, and dedication needed to drive our organisation forward. Together, we will continue to foster a strong and united motorcycling community that is safe and enjoyable for all.”
Ms Bowditch thanked outgoing interim Director Robert McGlinchy, ”It would be remiss of me not to extend my extreme gratitude to MNSW Life Member Mr Bob McGlinchy for stepping into the casual vacancy over the past several months. Bob’s contribution has been invaluable and we are incredibly fortunate to be able to call on his experience and insight during a time of organisational need”.
All four Directors will commence their appointment to the MNSW Board on September 1, 2023; thereafter, their re-election and/or reappointment will align with the constitutionally prescribed cadence.
