15 of our state’s most exciting junior MX riders gave it their all at the recently concluded KTM Australian Junior Motocross Championships at Acacia Hills, NT. Coached by Michel Constantinou, the young riders competed alongside some of the best talents from around Australia between July 11 and 15.
Podium finishes
In the 100cc-250cc 2-stroke (13-U15 years) category, Cooper Rowe had an eye-wateringly perfect run, claiming first place for all five Final Moto’s before earning the Championship title. Max Compton fought hard to bring home silver in the same category. The bright talent from Halekulani added another silverware to his tally this year, giving Queensland’s Jackson Fuller some fierce competition in the 85cc 2-stroke & 150cc 4-stroke (14-U16yrs) category.
Cooper Rowe left his mark in the 128cc-150cc 2-stroke & 200cc to 250cc 4-stroke (13 – U15yrs) categories as well, finishing second overall. Claiming third right behind him was Lachlan Morris, also from NSW.
Giving our state more reason to cheer, Ky Woods dominated the 100cc to 125cc 2-stroke (15yrs) category, leaving behind Patrick Butler (WA) and Liam Owens (QLD) to claim the honours. The 16-year-old also dominated the 128cc-150cc 2-stroke & 200cc-to250cc 4-stroke (15yrs) category, coming very close to clinching the title before being edged out by Liam Owens and finishing second.
Lake Macquarie Motorcycle Club’s Liam Millard had an impressive run too, claiming silver in the 65cc 2-stroke (7 – U10yrs) category after finishing behind Queensland’s Nico Verhoeven.
16-year-old Danielle McDonald, originally based out of NSW, raced for Northern Territory at the event, wrapping up the Junior Girls 125cc/250cc class with a win.
