Motorcycling NSW Limited (MNSW) provides the following advice for our community.

 

In the past fortnight, MNSW has unfortunately received the resignations of two valued staff members, Dane-Lucas Kovacevic and Adam Brook. Both have accepted roles in other organisations commencing in the near future. Dane-Lucas will be joining Tennis NSW and Adam is moving to RACE (Inc) – the umbrella corporate entity for some of New Zealand’s most prominent horse racing clubs.

 

Dane-Lucas Kovacevic commenced with MNSW in 2019 and in the past three years has performed the role of Sport and Event Officer with distinction. During Dane-Lucas’s tenure he has witnessed difficult times in MNSW’s sport administration but has always performed his role with care and success for our organisation and community. 

 

MNSW CEO Daniel Rushworth acknowledged the significant contribution Dane-Lucas provided to the community and organisation. “In my short time with the organisation, I have constantly witnessed Dane-Lucas to be an excellent member of the MNSW operational team and we will miss him. I have been significantly impressed by his ability and work ethic to provide critical services and advice for the wider MNSW community. Dane has continually delivered for our members, their clubs and committees and it’s really sad to see him leave us. Whilst disappointed to see him move on, I am honestly excited for this next opportunity that Dane has taken and wish him well as he progresses into the next phase of his career.”  

 

Dane-Lucas reflected on his journey as an employee with Motorcycling NSW “The chequered flag has fallen on my time here at Motorcycling NSW. Unfortunately, the opportunity I have taken on at Tennis NSW was too good to turn down. Having had a passion for Tennis since a young age, I have had aspirations of working in the sport for a while now and I am so excited to get started! I would like to thank all the committees, members, officials and all our awesome clubs for all their guidance throughout my time here. The community has been so welcoming and it has been a joy working alongside you for the betterment of this great sport. I have learnt so much in my time here and I wish you all the very best, it has been an absolute pleasure working with each and every one of you!

 

I would also like to extend my thanks to Motorcycling NSW for its continued support over the past three years. While it has been a tumultuous time over the past couple of years, I have no doubt that the organisation is in capable hands with a fresh Board and Daniel at the helm. I wish them all the best of luck and I am confident they will do great things for motorcycling in NSW!”

 

Sport Development Manager Adam Brook commenced with MNSW in late 2021 and in that short time has made a significant impact on the community and organisation. Adam’s excellent engagement and vast knowledge of the sport and industry have allowed him to work closely with the community through, clubs, promoters, sports committee and government agencies with aplomb.  

 

Rushworth added “Adam has been and will continue to be a significant asset to the organisation. He is universally appreciated by the MNSW Community. Adam continually looks to progress our sport and organisation through strategic initiatives and remains passionate for our community and sport to succeed. I have personally appreciated Adam’s guidance providing in-depth knowledge of the sport to aid me in my induction into the organisation. Adam’s journey through MNSW has now provided a career opportunity that is different and exciting. We are indeed fortunate that he will continue to be involved as a volunteer and project consultant. On behalf of the organisation, we wish Adam all the best in the next step of his career.” 

 

Brook spoke on the positive progression of the organisation and its opportunities “In just a few short months I’ve witnessed MNSW transform under the leadership of the new Board of Directors, and new CEO Daniel, into a modern, transparent, and respected State Sporting Organisation, with a renewed focus to developing new initiatives and services for both clubs and competitors, while establishing quality relationships with its stakeholders.

 

I’m disappointed that my time here will go down as a ‘Did Not Finish’, particularly given I’ll miss the opportunity to continue working under new MNSW CEO Daniel Rushworth, given the high level of professionalism, outstanding insight into the wider sporting landscape and fresh perspective that he brings to the organisation.

 

However, with many exciting projects and opportunities in the pipeline aimed at securing the sports future in the state, including the Sydney Motorsport Precinct and the 100^th Anniversary of Speedway Racing, I am hopeful of continuing to assist Daniel and the MNSW’s clubs and committees through offering insight and support as a volunteer and consultant – whilst also riding at the odd event when I’m on this side of the ditch!”

 

With the departure of Dane-Lucas and Adam in the near future, Motorcycling NSW will be replacing both roles and further investing resources in another three roles to drive the strategic direction of both participation and business growth.

 

Motorcycling NSW Chairperson Darren Gossling added “Whilst sad and disappointing to have two highly valued team members depart the organisation in Dane-Lucas and Adam, the Board and I are so thankful to both gentlemen as they have served the organisation and community so well during their tenure and wish them the very best in their next career opportunities.”

 

Acknowledging the operational challenges of MNSW Gossling added “It has become clear to myself and the MNSW Board that our organisation had been significantly under resourced in servicing our community and business. We recognised the need for investment into human resources and following the proposal from our CEO Daniel Rushworth we will now build a new team to drive our operational and strategic future”

NSW will take centre stage in 2022 with the NSW Speedway Sports Committee announcing the 2022 NSW Speedway Solo Super Series where junior and senior riders from across Australia will compete in one of the most entertaining forms of motorsport on the planet.

The ‘Super Series’ will be held over four rounds from May to August with the opening round scheduled for 14th May at Woodstock Park Speedway Cowra, followed by Oakburn Park Raceway Tamworth (18th June), Loxford Park Speedway Kurri Kurri ( TBC July) and the final round at Diamond Park Speedway in Albury on 6th August 2022.

Interim MNSW CEO, Lauren Werrin said “This series has been developed by the MNSW Speedway Sports committee with the aim to increase participation in the discipline and bring a speedway roadshow to regional NSW.

It’s an opportunity to build and reinvigorate the sport after two turbulent years of COVID-19. It’s wonderful to see our Speedway Sports Committee being proactive in this space and I’m very excited to see the series opener in 2022”. Classes for the NSW Speedway Solo Super Series will cover all age groups from the grassroots 50cc demonstration class through to 125cc and 250cc juniors and 500cc senior riders, who are embarking on the next step of their motorcycling career.

MNSW Sport Development Manager, Adam Brook said “This is a fantastic opportunity for Motorcycling NSW to focus on junior development, it allows our riders a pathway and platform to the national and international stage, and with 14 NSW speedway riders currently racing professionally overseas, it puts a spotlight on the talent we are producing in NSW”.

The series will offer a tangible speedway product which will profile and build longevity of the discipline for many years to come. Opportunities for sponsorship and television coverage are available.

Motorcycling NSW are now calling for nominations from within the community to join the Motorcycling NSW Sports Committees.

 

The Sports Committees play an integral role in the management and delivery of each discipline throughout the State. The Sports Committees make recommendations to the MNSW board on specific aspects of MNSW operations including the following; the conduct of various disciplines of motorcycle sport and recreation, whole of MNSW considerations including officials and coaching as well as any other purpose consistent with the MNSW objectives and MNSW principles.

 

Sports Committee positions will be appointed by the Board, these positions will serve 12-month tenure commencing August 1^st 2022. Existing Members of the Sport Committees are eligible to nominate for re-appointment.

 

Nominations for each Sports Committee may be submitted by any member by the closing date for nominations (April 30).

 

These opportunities with the Sports Committees include the following disciplines;

• Dirt Track
• Enduro (includes Cross Country, Pony Express and Enduro Cross Events)
• Historic Road Race
• Minikhana
• Motocross (includes Supercross)
• Road Race
• Speedway
• Moto Trials

In further detail the functions of the Motorcycling NSW Sports Committee are to;

• Make recommendations to the CEO regarding the formulation of the calendar, the approval of Supplementary Regulations, and the appointment of Stewards for meetings.
• Make recommendations to the CEO on any aspect of the conduct of motorcycle sport.
• Make recommendations to The Board for the alteration of By-Laws.
• Make recommendation of rules for the conduct of motorcycle sport, including track construction and machine eligibility.
• Select state representatives, teams and team managers

• Monitor the conduct of, and maintain point scores for State Championships.

• Maintain records of expenditure of funds as approved by the Board.
• Form sub-committees as they think fit to advise them, but not to assume any of the Committees powers.
• Exercise the functions of the SCB with regard to the eligibility of machines to compete in various classes of competition.
• Review proposed national rule changes and give recommendations to the MA Councillor via the MNSW Board.

The programme of events for the long awaited return of motorcycle racing to the Bathurst Showground has been expanded to include a Maters Shootout, a series of match races for the top riders that is certain to excite fans.

Saturday March 5 is locked in for race day, after practice on the Friday, for the Bathurst Long Track Masters meeting, more than four years since the last time the venue hosted racing.

 

If 111 events across 14 classes of competition were not enough, organisers have now added another feature to be staged around what is normally the tea break for the meeting.

The timing of that break in racing is invariably dictated by the setting sun with officials cautious about sending off a full field of machines looking in to the setting sun low in the western sky.

 

Instead the series of match races will involve just two machines at a time, and they will be the best performed riders up to that point in the programme.

There will be four classes for the Masters Shootout – Pro 450 and Over 40s / Unlimited 2-stroke machines, long track sliders and the two three-wheel classes, namely dirt track sidecars and speedway sidecars.

Lap times recorded in qualifying heats during the afternoon will determine the three fastest in the sidecar classes and five fastest in the two-wheel classes.

The Shootout format is simple – the two slowest qualifiers will have a one-lap match race with the loser eliminated and the winner progressing to take on the next fastest of the qualifiers.

 

For the last two riders it will be a ‘dash for cash’ with only the winner taking the prizemoney from local businesses Bustin’ Free Earthworks and Schumack Engineering.

The last meeting at Bathurst Showground back in 2017 saw the Shootout staged as a series of time trials and one of those winners Mackenzie Childs is back this year aiming for a repeat success in the Pro 450 class.
